What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Studies (HS) Long-Term Substitute position at U-32?
Washington Central Unified Union School District is looking for a positive, experienced and enthusiastic educator to join the U-32 Social Studies Department as a long-term substitute during a teacher's leave from the start of the 2025-2026 school year in August through early December. High school classes will include US History, Sociology, and Psychology.
Candidates must be able to work creatively and collaboratively to create an environment that invites respect for all persons, relate a sense of fairness, and practice commitment to inclusion and diversity. Training in restorative practices is preferred. This position also includes the responsibilities of Teacher Advisor for 10-12 students.
The 700 student, 7-12 school is located on a beautiful hilltop campus in Central Vermont. U-32 is an individualistic, student-centered school with an outstanding reputation in academics, athletics, and the arts.
The preferred candidate will:
• Have teaching experience in high school Social Studies, skilled in Proficiency-based Graduation Requirements, as well as the ability to create proficiency-based lessons and units;
• Have a demonstrated understanding and application of best practices in teaching and learning including authentic assessments and Understanding by Design;
• Be enthusiastic, student centered, and committed to educating all students to high standards;
• Be licensed by the State of Vermont with a (2-15) Social Studies, grades 7-12 endorsement.
