What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President of Communications position at Tzunu Strategies?
Tzunu Strategies is looking for a Vice President of Communications to join our team. The Vice President of Communications will be responsible for working closely with the Executive Team in designing & executing creative strategies that shift the narrative, engage public policy and advance social change; manage and supervise communications staff; and oversee a number of accounts at Tzunu Strategies. RESPONSIBILITIES
The VP of Communications will report to the CEO and Chief Communications Officer. They will work in close collaboration with the Executive Team which currently includes the CEO, Chief Communications Officer (CCO), Chief Governmental Relations Officer (CGO), and Managing Partner. The VP:
- Designs, executes, and oversees communications campaigns with small teams.
- Approaches the work with an innovative, solutions-oriented approach and can-do attitude.
- With the oversight of the CCO, provides leadership in co-developing and ensuring appropriate implementation of firm wide communications priorities
- Executes communications deliverables and oversees other team members in executing high quality and impactful deliverables.
- Develops external or public relations strategies & tactics to achieve client goals.
- In collaboration with the CCO and Managing Partner, develops and ensures firmwide implementation of communications operational and tool standards on internal facing and client/external facing tools, practices, and materials.
- Keeps abreast of developments within the communications field.
- Customizes project management plans for various accounts across the firm.
- Manages client relationships by attending meetings, tracking progress and deliverables in close collaboration with Account Executives.
- Serves as the main point of contact for multiple Tzunu accounts.
- Drafts and distributes materials for our public affairs and government relations clients ranging from reports to press tools to other materials.
- Leads and helps to secure local, regional and national coverage for clients.
- Represent Tzunu with media, reporters and in public events.
- Develops authentic relationships with reporters and influencers to support our clients.
- In collaboration with the CCO, ensures team members are developing and nurturing reporter and media outlet relationships.
- Fosters creative assets and messaging that engages intersectional communities (Black, Latino/a/x, Asian American, Pacific Islander, LGBTQ , and other historically marginalized communities).
- Engages in effective supervision of select communications staff.
- In coordination with the CCO and Managing Partner, supports growth and development of communications staff through coaching and mentoring.
- In collaboration with Tzunu leadership, supports new business opportunities, networks and proposal submissions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 7 years experience in managing projects and leading cross-functional work groups.
- Expert in communications advocacy, including experience managing projects and leading cross-functional work groups.
- Extensive experience in a public-facing capacity (i.e., sales, marketing, public relations, communications, community relations, corporate relations, advertising, or a related field).
- Excellent communication and leadership qualities with the ability to assess complex situations and communicate clearly and precisely.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to write and think clearly, creatively, and critically in environments where it’s essential to clarify ambiguity, solve problems, and manage crises.
- Strong project management skills, including planning for gatherings and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively and collaborate with diverse constituencies within the firm, a diverse client portfolio, and the general public, while simultaneously managing, monitoring, and completing multiple projects with competing demands and tight deadlines.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media.
- Graduation from a university or college with a major in public relations, marketing communications, or related field.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $125,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
