Job Details: SUMMARY: As a Pork Procurement Intern, you can expect to not only learn activities associated with procuring and handling hogs, but also be introduced to other departments within our pork division. Throughout the 10-to-12-week period you will have hands on experience, receiving, weighing, tattooing, and penning of hogs in an environment that focuses on proper AWB (Animal Well-Being) and comfort of the animals. You will be booking loads for local hog deliveries and keeping an effective book schedule for accuracy in maintaining plant harvesting operations as well as traveling to attend trade shows. You will have the opportunity to train in grade and yield kill sheet information, weight docks, and other buying procedures. You will also have the opportunity to shadow buyers in the field. Upon completion of your internship, you will have acquired a direct understanding of the requirements involved in purchasing a continual supply of quality raw material. You will also fully comprehend Tyson's buying practices that can position you well for advancement in becoming a Livestock Buyer. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must include a resume to be considered. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited university with at least one semester of school remaining following internship. Animal Science, Agriculture, or other related majors preferred. Experience: Previous livestock and agricultural experience preferred. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Other requirements: Must be highly motivated in running a successful business. Position Specific Requirements: This position will be located at our Louisa County Plant in Columbus Junction, IA. This is a 10–12-week Internship and is tentatively scheduled to start middle May and end middle of August. Must be enrolled in a college or university with degree-seeking status.
