Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher – Occupational Course of Study (OCS)
Under general supervision, the EC Teacher (OCS) serves students with disabilities following the Occupational Course of Study pathway. The teacher provides specially designed instruction, life skills, and work-based learning experiences aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supporting their transition to adulthood and employment.
Duties and Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and monitors IEPs for students in the OCS program.

Provides direct instruction in academic skills, functional life skills, and vocational preparation.

Coordinates and supervises community-based training and work-based learning experiences.

Collaborates with families, job coaches, and employers to support student success.

Uses evidence-based practices and assistive technology to address student needs.

Collects and analyzes student data to inform instruction and IEP goals.

Participates in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and transition planning.

Maintains accurate records of student progress, work hours, and required documentation.

Manages student behavior using positive and proactive strategies, including crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.

Maintains confidentiality of all student information.

Participates in professional development as required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum Training and Experience

North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Exceptional Children: General Curriculum (with OCS training/experience preferred).

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
