SUMMARY: To maintain the physical school plan and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Supervises custodians in the performance of regular duties and carries out special work assignments made by the principal.
- At the beginning of the shift, turns off lights on football field and outside security lights that are manually operated, turns on hall lights and checks water supply (NCHS/NMS)
- Unlocks main doors (inside and outside) and gates at appropriate times.
- Raises and lowers the United States and Virginia Flags at the designated times.
- Coordinates cleanup of campus after games and other special events (NCHS/NMS).
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment on hand, requisitions such needed replacements from the Maintenance Supervisor far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodians in their duties.
- Coordinates the cleaning of sidewalks, steps, and other access areas around the school when snow and ice is present.
- Checks daily to insure all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Plans and oversees all minor maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to principal.
- Reports immediately to the principal or his designee any damage to school property.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance required by the principal.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
- Inspects each building daily for needed repairs, areas needing special cleaning, and areas needing attention for safety reasons.
- Performs cleaning duties as assigned by the principal.
- Complies with all procedures for disposal and storage of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Oversees and participates in grass cutting, trimming, and shrubbery pruning.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.
- Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; three-five years related experience preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
