Help Students Reach Their Potential

TX-STAR Speech Language Services partners with school districts across Texas to provide individualized educational support for students with a wide range of learning needs. We are currently seeking Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for school-based opportunities in the San Antonio area and throughout Texas.

These positions are ideal for educators who are dedicated to helping students with hearing differences access instruction, strengthen communication skills, and participate fully in inclusive educational environments.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will provide specialized instruction and consultation designed to improve students’ access to the curriculum and support their academic and communication goals.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver direct and consultative instructional services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing

  • Complete assessments to identify students’ academic strengths, communication needs, and areas requiring additional support

  • Modify curriculum, classroom materials, and teaching methods to improve accessibility and participation

  • Implement instructional goals, accommodations, and services identified in students’ Individualized Education Programs

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, campus staff, interpreters, and multidisciplinary team members

  • Recommend strategies that help students engage in classroom instruction, assignments, and school activities

  • Participate in ARD and IEP meetings and provide progress updates, professional observations, and recommendations

  • Support communication development through spoken language, sign language, or a combination of approaches based on individual student needs

  • Incorporate assistive listening technology, adaptive equipment, visual supports, and other accessibility tools as appropriate

  • Maintain accurate service records, progress reports, assessment information, and required compliance documentation

Qualifications for This Position

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Current Texas teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education or Auditory Impairments

  • Knowledge of specialized instructional practices for students with hearing differences

  • Understanding of IEP procedures, accommodations, and school-based special education services

  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, families, administrators, and related-service professionals

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

  • Previous experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing is preferred

  • Proficiency in sign language is a plus
