Help Students Reach Their Potential

TX-STAR Speech Language Services partners with school districts throughout Texas to provide accessible, individualized educational support for students with diverse learning and communication needs. We are currently seeking Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for school-based opportunities in the Houston area and other communities across Texas.

These positions are ideal for educators who are committed to helping students with hearing differences access instruction, strengthen communication skills, and participate fully in inclusive school environments.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will provide specialized instruction, consultation, and accessibility support based on each student’s educational and communication needs.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver direct and consultative instructional services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing

  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ academic strengths, communication needs, and areas requiring additional support

  • Modify curriculum, classroom materials, and teaching strategies to improve accessibility and participation

  • Implement instructional goals, services, accommodations, and modifications outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, interpreters, related-service providers, and campus staff

  • Recommend strategies that help students participate in classroom discussions, assignments, and school activities

  • Attend ARD and IEP meetings and provide progress updates, professional observations, and educational recommendations

  • Support communication development through spoken language, sign language, or a combination of approaches based on individual student needs

  • Incorporate assistive listening technology, visual supports, adaptive equipment, and other accessibility resources

  • Maintain complete and accurate service records, assessment reports, progress updates, and required compliance documentation

Qualifications for This Position

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Current Texas teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education or Auditory Impairments

  • Knowledge of specialized instructional practices for students with hearing differences

  • Understanding of IEP procedures, accommodations, accessibility needs, and school-based special education services

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, families, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

  • Previous experience supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing is preferred

  • Proficiency in sign language is a plus
