Position SummaryCavendish Town Elementary School is seeking a skilled, dependable, and hands-on Head of Maintenance & Custodial Services to oversee the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and custodial operations of the school.The Head of Maintenance & Custodial Services is responsible for coordinating and performing a wide range of electrical, plumbing, heating, mechanical, and general building maintenance activities. This position also provides functional and partial administrative supervision to approximately 1-2 full-time employees, as well as temporary and seasonal staff.The successful candidate will be an experienced maintenance professional who can work independently, troubleshoot problems effectively, manage projects and contractors, maintain a safe and functional school environment, and provide leadership and training to custodial and maintenance staff.Essential ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to: Electrical SystemsCoordinate electrical system work for the CTES.Troubleshoot and repair electrical failures, damage, and equipment.Repair or replace electrical fixtures and equipment.Remove outdated electrical systems and install new wiring, systems, and equipment as needed.Support electrical projects associated with new construction and renovations.Inspect, repair, and replace life-safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and fire alarm systems.Maintain current knowledge of applicable electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.Plumbing & Heating SystemsCoordinate plumbing and heating system work for the CTES.Troubleshoot and repair plumbing and heating system leaks, failures, and damage.Install, maintain, repair, and replace water lines, drains, and plumbing fixtures, including toilets, sinks, faucets, tubs, and showers.Install new water lines and drains as needed for construction and renovation projects.Perform or assist with plumbing work involving gas and steam lines associated with heating systems.Service and clean boilers and furnaces.Maintenance, Projects & OperationsPlan and manage assigned maintenance, repair, and improvement projects.Determine appropriate work methods, materials, costs, and estimated completion times.Prepare material and project cost estimates.Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors.Maintain tools, equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for maintenance operations.Maintain an appropriate inventory of supplies and materials.Assist with other mechanical systems and general building maintenance as needed.Ensure maintenance work complies with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.Perform other related duties as assigned.Leadership & SupervisionTrain, direct, and oversee custodial and maintenance staff.Provide functional and partial administrative supervision to approximately 1-2 full-time employees and temporary/seasonal staff.Establish priorities and coordinate work assignments to support safe, clean, and well-maintained school facilities.Promote a professional, safe, and collaborative work environment.QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess: High school diploma or equivalent, plus 3-5 years of relevant technical training and/or experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.A valid plumbing or electrical license is preferred but not required.Knowledge of electrical and/or plumbing/heating systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.General knowledge and skills related to mechanical systems, building construction, and building repair.Experience with project planning and management, including estimating labor, materials, costs, and timelines.Demonstrated ability to train, direct, and oversee the work of others.Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to effectively prioritize multiple maintenance needs and respond appropriately to urgent facility issues.Ability to handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts professionally.Physical RequirementsThe employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.The position frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to handle tools and equipment, climbing or balancing, and communicating with others. Salary : $50,000 - $54,000
