Company Description Twin Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a not-for-profit, member-owned rural electric cooperative serving southeast Kansas. The cooperative operates primarily in Labette County, with additional service areas in Cherokee, Neosho, and Montgomery Counties. Twin Valley Electric provides reliable electric service to over 3,000 meters, consisting largely of rural residences and farms. Role Description This full-time, on-site Journeyman Lineman role is based in Altamont, KS. The Journeyman Lineman is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electric distribution lines and related equipment. Daily tasks include installing and replacing poles and hardware, stringing and tensioning conductors, troubleshooting outages, performing switching operations, and responding to emergency calls in all weather conditions. The role also involves working safely with bucket trucks and other heavy equipment, inspecting and maintaining substations and line equipment, and completing required documentation and reporting. Collaboration with crew members, adherence to safety standards, and providing courteous service to cooperative members are essential aspects of this position.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electricity and power distribution systems, including construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of distribution lines. Familiarity with RUS construction standards is preferred, but not required.
- Possession of a valid CDL Class A license and ability to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and digger derricks.
- Experience working with substation equipment, including inspection, routine maintenance, and assisting with testing and repairs.
- Completion of an accredited lineman apprenticeship program or equivalent journeyman lineman certification.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, including adherence to OSHA regulations, cooperative safety policies, and use of proper protective equipment.
- Ability to work at heights, perform physically demanding tasks, and respond to after-hours emergencies and on-call duties as needed.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions, complete reports, and interact professionally with members and coworkers.
