Instrument & Electronic (I&E) Technician

Job Summary

This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting instrumentation and electronic systems used in oilfield and industrial applications. The I&E Technician is responsible for ensuring equipment operates safely, accurately, and efficiently in both shop and field environments. Success in this position comes from strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation and electronic systems
• Work with measurement and control devices including radar level measurement, pressure and temperature instruments, and flow measurement systems
• Install and service gas measurement equipment including flow computers, Coriolis meters, magnetic flow meters, and turbine meters
• Troubleshoot and maintain digital level switches and related instrumentation
• Assist with PLC operation and basic programming tasks
• Perform low voltage wiring and assist with control panel work
• Support and maintain radio networks and wireless communication systems
• Work with communication protocols including Modbus, HART, and Ethernet
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance
• Respond to field service calls and support customer operations as needed
• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company policies and safety standards
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including service reports and logs
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner
• Provide excellent customer service while working in the field and interacting with clients
• Participate in on-call rotation as required
• Other duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in instrumentation, electronics, or electrical systems preferred
• Knowledge of oil and gas well operations
• Familiarity with instrumentation and measurement systems such as radar level, pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices
• Basic understanding of PLC operation and control systems
• Knowledge of low voltage wiring and communication systems
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability and willingness to learn new technology
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments
• Ability to safely lift, carry, and move up to 75 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in instrumentation, electrical, or I&E-related field
• Experience working in oil and gas or industrial environments
• Familiarity with gas measurement systems and flow computers
• Experience with communication protocols such as Modbus, HART, and Ethernet
• Basic PLC programming experience
