What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Loan Officer position at Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity?

The Community Loan Officer supports first-time homebuyers through the mortgage process, from pre-approval to closing, for TCHFH Lending, Inc., Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s nonprofit lending subsidiary. This role includes loan origination, borrower education, and community outreach. The Loan Officer helps families buying Habitat-built homes or purchasing on the open market and actively builds relationships with clients, realtors, and community partners to promote TCHFH Lending, Inc.

Required Qualifications

Education, credentials, and experience:

  • Active Minnesota NMLS Mortgage Loan Originator License (verified at application).
  • Minimum 3 years recent mortgage lending experience, including 2 years in loan origination and closing.
  • Familiar with standard underwriting, delivery requirements, and lending regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Mortgage Lending: Provides borrowers with access to financing for real estate transactions while managing risk and ensuring compliance with lending regulations.
  • Approachability: Puts others at ease with warmth, graciousness and active listening.
  • Intercultural Competence: The ability to function effectively across cultures, to think and act appropriately, and to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures information is complete and accurate and follows up to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with others, inside and outside the organization to achieve shared goals. 

Preferred Qualifications

Education, credentials, and experience:

  • Degree in finance, business, accounting or real estate.  
  • Background in residential lending, affordable housing, banking, finance, or accounting.  
  • Knowledge of affordable housing down payment assistance programs including local housing grants/subsidies available in market and capability to assist borrowers in accessing affordable housing assistance.
