What are the responsibilities and job description for the Founding Full Stack Engineer position at Twill?
We're partnering with an early-stage, NYC-based consumer social startup on their first technical hire — a founding engineer who'll shape the product, the systems, and the engineering culture from day one alongside the founders.
They just closed pre-seed, have a passionate beta community, and are about to go to market. This is a true zero-to-one seat with a clear path toward technical leadership as the team grows.
What you'll do
- Own large, ambiguous problems and ship them end-to-end across frontend, backend, and infra
- Architect core systems — real-time feeds, search, chat, browsing
- Build ML-intensive features (semantic search, embedding pipelines, vector indexing, automated tagging with off-the-shelf models)
- Set technical standards as the codebase and team scale
- Partner directly with founders on product and technical strategy
What we're looking for
- Experience shipping production-grade software end-to-end
- Comfortable moving across frontend, backend, and infra
- Hands-on with modern ML/AI in production (you don't need to be a researcher — just fluent in the stack)
- A strong bias for action and a lot of agency
- Bonus: you're genuinely tapped into pop culture, creative tools, and the future of the social web
- Bonus: you've used AI coding tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or Codex
Stack: TypeScript, Serverless Postgres (Neon), React Router v7, Drizzle ORM, Cloudflare R2, Fly.io. You don't need every tool — just the ability to ramp fast.
