What are the responsibilities and job description for the Polymer Engineer position at Twelve?
Job Brief
As a Polymer Engineer, you will report to a Senior Polymer Chemist and work alongside junior chemists on the team. Your focus will be on the characterization and optimization of a variety of materials. You will work with external customers to provide materials made from the CO produced with our technology. This role will provide ample opportunities for internal collaboration and diverse day to day activities.
As we continue to partner with more companies seeking green alternatives to their materials, characterization and process development methods are required to achieve the desired properties. Different materials will be used depending on the project and various polymer processing techniques. This role will be responsible for processing CO2 made materials and will interact with external manufacturers.
What You Will Do
- Communicate with manufacturers about material/product needs
- Collect, inventory, organize, and characterize CO2 manufactured materials
- Create reports for each material with characterization findings (such as DSC, TGA, MFR, NMR, and/or thickness measurements)
- Work to understand material properties and meet the requirements of the customer
- Work with other junior chemists on the characterization team and chemistry team in general
- Present findings to team and customers
Who You Are
- BS or BE in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related STEM field
- knowledgeable in polymer chemistry and polymer processing including TGA, DSC, hot pressing, MFR, pelletizing, and mixing polymer materials
- competent in common chemistry lab techniques such as rotary evaporation, vacuum oven usage, and NMR
- have experience working in a chemistry wet lab environment and have good note keeping and organization skills
