Mechanic – Tweetsie Railroad
Position Summary
Tweetsie Railroad is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious Mechanic to join our Train Shop
team. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the
park's historic steam locomotives, amusement rides, vehicles, heavy equipment, and other
mechanical systems to ensure the safe and reliable operation of all attractions. The ideal
candidate is mechanically skilled, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in maintaining
equipment to the highest safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on steam
locomotives, diesel equipment, amusement park rides, vehicles, heavy equipment, and
small engines.
Inspect, repair, and maintain ride mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic
systems, brakes, drive components, and safety devices in accordance with manufacturer
specifications and company procedures.
Assist with the maintenance and repair of railroad equipment, including locomotives,
railcars, and track-related equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and electrical system issues and
complete repairs in a timely manner.
Perform routine inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential safety hazards before
equipment is placed into operation.
Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair records.
Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and shop
machinery safely and effectively.
Assist with fabrication, welding, and equipment modifications as needed.
Respond quickly to maintenance issues during park operating hours to minimize
downtime.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and ride maintenance standards.
Work collaboratively with Operations, Ride Supervisors, and other Maintenance team
members.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience as a mechanic, industrial maintenance technician, heavy equipment
mechanic, or amusement ride maintenance technician preferred.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulics,
pneumatics, electrical systems, and troubleshooting techniques.
Welding, fabrication, and machining experience is preferred.
Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and repair documentation.
Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining a strong focus on
safety.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds
with assistance.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
Ability to work at heights and around moving mechanical equipment.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and
humidity.
Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment, tools, and machinery.
Work Schedule
This position requires a flexible schedule. Candidates must be willing and able to work
weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays as needed. Overtime may be required during peak
