History Teacher – Grades 6-8
The Tuxedo Park School is seeking qualified candidates that are engaging and dynamic classroom teachers with experience in developing student-centered courses. Qualified candidates will be experienced in teaching a wide range of history topics, including ancient and US History. Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in the field of history education
- Master’s Degree preferred
- At least 3 years teaching experience in the subject area of middle school history
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Publisher, Word, Power Point) and SMARTBoard Technology
- Highly self-motivated, self-disciplined strong team player with ability to work independently or as part of a larger team
- Must possess exceptional organizational abilities: perform multiple projects, prioritize and provide attention to detail and respect deadlines
- Must demonstrate awareness of sensitive issues and ability to exercise good judgment in relating to students, public, faculty and staff, boards, volunteers and donors
- Ability to analyze and relate data in comprehensible presentations, notes and materials
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate passionately, clearly and concisely in writing and orally
- Maintains a positive relationship with parents to create a secure environment for children
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning of all students.
- Develop a balanced program involving factual background material, discussion time, geography skills, writing, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage students to draw their own conclusions and analysis.
- 6th grade- Ancient History; 7th/8th grade US History
- Aid students in identifying cultural trends throughout history and guide them in applying those trends to our world today.
- Teach writing and research skills utilizing both internet and physical sources.
- Work closely with the English department to enhance writing skills.
- Implement creative methods and projects to engage students in research and primary source analysis.
- Participate actively in the work of the grade level and across grade levels to coordinate curricular and extracurricular offerings, such as the Geography Bee and potentially Model UN. Plan and lead overnight trip to Washington D.C/Boston.
- Aid in planning and facilitating field trips relevant to the students’ studies.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use data to adjust teaching strategies.
- Schedule and conduct conferences with students, parents, and colleagues to provide information on student progress and student needs, inclusive of completing written academic reports three times a year.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
- Attend school functions such as athletic events, class plays, fundraisers, awards ceremonies, commencement, and fundraisers; inclusive of chaperoning overnight trips with the upper school students.
- Perform additional daily duties that may or may not directly relate to the subject area or licensure field, including advising a group of 8-10 students.
