Our costume studio supports over 100 performers and requires strong systems, organization, and attention to detail to ensure every event runs smoothly.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Costume Studio Technician to execute studio production systems and maintain costume readiness.
This is a production-focused role, not a costume design or creative position.
The ideal candidate is structured, reliable, and takes pride in maintaining clean systems, accurate inventory, and well-presented costumes.
You will work under the supervision of our Operations Manager, who provides final quality control and oversight.
Core Responsibilities
Costume Care & Maintenance
- Inspect returned costumes for damage, wear, or missing components
- Perform sewing repairs (hems, seams, closures, elastic, minor alterations)
- Use proper garment care techniques to preserve fabric integrity and presentation
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and costume condition
- Log all damages and repairs in the repair tracking system
Laundry & Weekly Reset (Tuesdays)
- Process all returned costumes and supplies
- Launder items appropriately and efficiently
- Sanitize reusable event supplies
- Ensure no laundry backlog
- Return all items to correct storage locations
Pulling, Staging & Prep (Wed–Thurs)
- Print and organize weekly studio sheets
- Pull costumes and supplies based on event schedule
- Stage all items in designated pickup areas
- Sign off on each item to confirm completeness
- Provide photo documentation of all staged costumes
Fittings & Performer Support
- Conduct fittings for performers
- Document measurements and costume preferences
- Assist performers with dressing when needed
- Support performer pickups throughout the week
Studio, Storage & Van Maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and functional studio environment
- Keep storage units organized and properly labeled
- Ensure all costume bins and supplies are in correct locations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of company van
- Transport costumes between storage units and studio as needed
Saturday Support & Projects
- Assist with weekend pickups and performer needs
- Serve as an emergency runner when required
- Work on repair log and ongoing maintenance tasks
- Participate in monthly projects such as deep cleaning, restocking, and labeling
Performance Expectations
Success in this role is measured by:
- Zero incomplete costume pulls
- All staging completed on time
- No laundry backlog
- Accurate repair logging
- Clean and organized studio environment
This role requires consistency, accountability, and attention to detail.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and follow structured systems
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 30 lbs
Preferred:
- Basic sewing skills (machine and hand sewing)
- Experience with garment care and fabric handling
- Experience in costume, wardrobe, or inventory-based roles
- Production, theatre, dance, or event experience (non-creative roles preferred)
Schedule
- Tuesday–Saturday required
- Approximately 25-30 hours per week
- Additional hours may be available during peak seasons or special events
Compensation
- $18–$20 per hour, based on experience
- 60-day evaluation period with performance-based review
