What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ranch Hand/Farmer: Weekend Crew position at Tussock Sedge Farm LLC?
Do you like animals and enjoy working outdoors? Are you looking for part time work on the weekends? Would you like to learn about the production of pasture raised meat? If so, this might be the perfect opportunity for you. As a Ranch Hand, you'll be our "feet on the ground" working directly with the animals. The days will look different depending on the time of year, but you'll need to be comfortable working around animals as small as day old baby chicks or as large as 2000 pound cattle. At a minimum, we need someone available on Saturdays and Sundays. Some weekdays could be available for the right candidate. You can expect to work a minimum of 4 hours each day, but if you'd like to stick around longer and assist with other tasks, an 8 hour day is available.
The ideal candidate would have compassion for an animals overall well being, and have an attention for detail. It is most critical that you are committed to our methods of farming. Plant or soil health knowledge is a bonus. Much of what we do can be taught, but a passion for what we do will ensure long term success.
We are a pasture based, regenerative agriculture farm in the suburbs of Philadelphia raising hay, grass fed beef, pastured pork, and pastured chicken on nearly 1,000 acres. We prioritize the humane handling and care of our animals, manage our pastures through intensive rotational grazing, and focus on producing the highest quality artisan products. We are not certified organic but follow organic principles and are a zero spray farm (no toxic chemicals here).
