POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Quality Engineer focuses on continuous improvement, implementing Quality Management program, plans, policies and procedures, implementing lean principles, and ensuring a company-wide commitment to quality.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The major responsibilities of the position are listed below. To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties, assignments, and specific projects may be assigned at the discretion of executive management.

 

  • Works directly with Operations, Engineering, Customer Service, Purchasing and Sales team to develop and validate quality processes and procedures designed to meet customer requirements and on time delivery.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects to achieve quality objectives and metrics targets.
  • Assists the Quality Manager in the development, implementation, communication, and maintenance of the quality program to make the Company’s Quality Management System and Policies (ISO 9001) complaint.
  • Works with Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Customer Service and Sales teams to ensure systems are implemented, maintained and effective.
  • Works with Purchasing and the supply chain to establish, implement and audit quality requirements for external suppliers.
  • Manages and maintains quality inspection and product release programs.
  • Supports Quality inspection and testing of manufactured components and final assemblies for conformance to design and configuration requirements.
  • Works with and supports the Quality Manager in the development of Quality compliance objectives and ensure that targets are achieved and results reported.
  • Assesses the product specifications of the company and its suppliers and compare with customer requirements.
  • Writes quality procedures and provides training to the organization on the use of the quality procedures.
  • Liaisons with our customers’ quality team and internal and external auditors.
  • Ensures the execution of corrective action and compliance with customers’ specifications.
  • Ability to support Sales on customer visits, installation and troubleshooting pump installations.
  • Other job duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; required, Mechanical Engineering; preferred
  • 4 years of experience as a Quality Engineer in industrial equipment manufacturing
  • Experience with ISO 9001; required
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience; preferred
  • MS Office Suite; required
  • Experience with 8Ds, corrective action, and preventive action programs; preferred
  • Experience with implementing a Quality Management System and supporting procedures, preferred
  • Experience with quality management across multiple locations and facilities, preferred
  • ASQ Certification (Quality Auditor, Quality Engineer, Quality Improvement Associate); preferred
  • Pump, Foundry or rotating equipment industry-specific experience; preferred
  • Ability to Travel 25% of the time

  • Quality - Knowledge of tools, concepts and methodologies of QA.

·      Manufacturing — Knowledge of production processes, costs, quality control, raw materials and other methods for maximizing the efficient manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Technical - Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications including ISO/ASME and GD&T.
  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • Mathematics — Using mathematics to solve problems.
  • Critical Thinking – Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

  • Deductive Reasoning – The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Mathematical Reasoning — The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
  • Oral Comprehension – The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Written Comprehension – The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Number Facility — The ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly.

  • Concentrated mental and/or visual attention. The work involves performing complex tasks to very close accuracy and quality specifications; or a high degree of hand and eye coordination for sustained periods.
