JOB DESCRIPTION – PARAPROFESSIONAL
TITLE: Paraprofessional
PURPOSE: Under the direction of assigned teacher(s), assists with the supervision of pupils, instructional tasks, and the
performance of duties which the teacher judges may be performed by a non-licensed individual.
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal in consultation with Special Education Director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Valid Ohio educational paraprofessional license issued by the State Board of Education.
B. If working in a federally funded program, the individual must be a “properly certified paraprofessional,” in accordance with state and
federal law (See Board Policy 4120).
C. Efficient written and oral communication abilities.
D. A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
E. Complies with the Board’s drug and alcohol policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following essential functions represent the fundamental job duties of the employment position. If, through reasonable accommodation, a
disabled person can substantially perform the essential functions of the job, such accommodation may be made.
A. Provides assistance to teachers in the delivery of the District’s educational program.
B. Assists in maintaining student discipline and adherence to classroom rules.
C. Assist with the supervision of students during recess, restroom breaks, class transitions, and other daily activities.
D. Attends meetings as directed.
E. Maintains the security and confidentiality of all privileged information, including student educational records.
F. Performs student educational support services, including (but not limited to):
a) Implements IEP goals, including instructional lessons, interventions and accommodations, behavioral modifications, etc.
b) Adheres to a daily schedule as directed by the teacher/administrator
c) Programs and uses communicative and instructional devices
d) Operates mobility devices such as wheelchairs, stair climbers, chair lifts, etc.
e) Assists with student mobility, including proper lifting, positioning, transferring, restraining.
f) Assists with student hygiene and self-help skills, including gross and fine motor skills, toileting, changing, feeding, etc.
g) Assists with student transportation, including bus riding, bus evacuation, and school bus safety procedures
h) Assists with IEP medically related services, as needed or required, under the instruction of a registered nurse, including but not limited
to, catheterization, feeding via tube-feeding or nutritional formula, bodily fluid clean-up, blood pressure checks, diabetic blood testing
and/or use of pump to deliver insulin, first aid, CPR, etc.
i) Monitors and tracks student performance and any other required data collection
G. Sets up classroom instructional equipment as directed.
H. Works with teachers to address student educational needs.
I. Regularly checks e-mail correspondence for directives from supervisor.
J. Reports instances of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to law enforcement.
K. Participates in assigned professional growth activities, including health and safety trainings.
L. Complies with all District policies and procedures.
M. Performs other functions as assigned.
N. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee may be required to perform the essential functions of the job under the following conditions and by completing tasks of the following
nature:
A. Physically moving supplies and equipment.
B. Operating or traveling as a passenger in a motor vehicle.
C. Using a computer or other technology devices for prolonged periods of time.
D. Exposure to risk of contact with communicable diseases, fumes, air-borne particles, and blood-borne pathogens.
E. Interaction with disorderly and potentially hostile students and members of the community.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Tuscarawas Valley Local School District Board of Education Policy and OAPSE #634 Negotiated
Agreement.
