What are the responsibilities and job description for the OSP Field Technician / Walkout Engineer (Broadband Infrastructure) position at Turnkey Engineering Solutions Inc.?
About Turnkey Engineering Solutions Inc.
Turnkey Engineering Solutions Inc. (TESINC) is a broadband engineering firm providing field engineering, make-ready, and permitting services for Fiber to the Home (FTTH), HFC, and commercial network deployments across the Southeast. We specialize in the real-world front end of engineering, taking designs from the screen to the field.
The Role
This is a 1099 independent contractor position, not an employee position. We're looking for detail-oriented field technicians to perform OSP (outside plant) walkouts and field data collection, based out of Athens, GA. You'll be our eyes in the field, making sure our engineering and drafting teams have accurate data for network deployment.
Pay
$1,375 to $2,250 per week, based on production. As a 1099 independent contractor, your pay is based on the field work you complete, not an hourly wage or salary. Weekly earnings within this range depend on your production.
Schedule
As a 1099 contractor, your schedule is flexible. We have consistent project volume that supports dedicated, full-time effort.
Travel
Some projects may require overnight travel.
Key Responsibilities
- OSP walkout and verification: walk proposed fiber and coax routes and verify existing aerial and underground plant against the design.
- Permit walkouts: collect field data and verify routes for state DOT, county, city, and railroad permit packages.
- Pole data collection: pole sticking, height-of-attachment measurements, pole tag and owner, pole height and class, and GPS location.
- Make-ready: document existing attachments, midspan clearances, guys and anchors, and pole condition, and flag poles that need rearrangement, transfer, or replacement for pole loading analysis.
- Mapping: strand and trench mapping using Bluebeam, Katapult Pro, KMZ files, or manual field notes.
- Surveying: MDU (multi-dwelling unit) new-build surveys and as-built verification.
- Quality control: make sure all field data meets customer-specific standards for permit drafting and coordination.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret utility maps, road prints, and design plans.
- Experience with field tools such as measuring wheels, height poles, and GPS or GIS devices.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and walking long distances.
- Proficiency with mobile data collection tools such as Bluebeam and Google Earth or KMZ files.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record (required).
- Your own reliable vehicle (required). Tools and safety gear are provided by Turnkey Engineering Solutions Inc.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project and field locations, including occasional overnight travel (required).
Preferred
- Katapult Pro experience.
- Background in OSP engineering, land surveying, or utility locating.
