Turningpoint, located in River Falls, WI, is seeking a part-time Advocate (approximately 6 to 12 hours per week mainly evenings, overnights, and weekends). The Advocate is responsible for providing, advocacy, education, and crisis intervention for victims of sexual and domestic violence and their children, residing in the shelter, and to telephone callers in crisis. Advocates provide a safe, secure, and supportive residential environment for all participants and guests. Monitors daily activity throughout the shelter to ensure participant safety in facility and works closely with all programs.
Flexibility to work overnights, weekends, and holidays is required.
No previous experience required, we will train the right candidates. Candidates should process the following skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations (elderly, children, women of color, physically disabled).
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Lead with compassion and empathy
- Ability to set healthy boundaries
- Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of sexual/domestic violence issues.

Turningpoint for Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence ("Turningpoint") is a non-profit organization that offers support and resources to victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Programs and services include temporary crisis shelter, 24-hour phone and text hotlines, one-on-one support, safety planning, legal services support, systems advocacy, sexual assault victim services, children/youth programming, and support groups. Services are open to all victims of domestic and sexual violence. They are also free and confidential.
