The HR Business Partner serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and team members, providing strategic guidance on team member relations, performance management, workforce planning, and organizational development. This role partners closely with departments to align people strategies with business goals, promote engagement and accountability, and ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies. The HR Business Partner fosters a culture of inclusion, communication, and continuous improvement while supporting the full spectrum of People & Culture initiatives across the organization.



What does an HR Business Partner do?

  • Provides strategic partnership and consultative People & Culture support to assigned departments, ensuring alignment between business goals, team member needs, and organizational strategy.
  • Coaches and advises leaders on performance management, talent development, engagement, and succession planning.
  • Leads and resolves team member relations matters, conducting thorough investigations, recommending fair resolutions, and ensuring compliance with policies and employment law.
  • Serves as a trusted resource for managers and team members regarding People & Culture policies, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyzes workforce data and People & Culture metrics to identify trends, inform decision-making, and recommend proactive solutions to improve retention and workplace culture.
  • Designs and facilitates leadership development initiatives and training on performance management, communication, and cultural alignment.
  • Supports organizational design and development by assisting departments with structure, staffing, and role alignment to meet operational demands.
  • Administers corrective counseling and problem resolution policies objectively, ensuring consistency and mitigating organizational risk.
  • Advises department leaders and the Vice President for People Operations on complex team member matters, including disciplinary actions and separations.
  • Monitors departmental communications and practices to ensure alignment with Nation policies and values.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all People & Culture functions, including pre-employment processing, benefits enrollment, training, and team member engagement initiatives.
  • Actively participates in department committees and organizational projects to promote collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Establishes a visible and reliable People & Culture presence within assigned departments, flexing schedule as needed to accommodate early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
  • Champions a culture of inclusion, respect, and accountability throughout the organization.

To be successful as an HR Business Partner, you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of human resources experience with an emphasis on employee relations.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment and labor laws (New York State preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, influence outcomes, and build trust across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet departmental operational needs outside standard office hours.
  • Proven judgment and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Experience in a corporate or multi-site environment.
  • Exposure to organizational development, cultural initiatives, or change management preferred.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 10 pounds.
