Summary

Turning Point School seeks an After School Teacher to work in the Early Childhood Division in a supporting capacity to the Teaching Assistant and Head Teacher in the classroom and then lead students during After School. A full-time member of the Early Childhood Team, this teacher will work alongside a faculty committed to innovating their teaching practices, with the guidance and support of the Early Childhood Division Head.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Classroom & Instructional Practice

  • Support students in the classroom during the day from 9:30am – 3:00pm under the direction of the Head Teacher and Teaching Assistant
  • Lead Early Childhood students during After Care from 3:00 – 6:00pm
  • Assist in the teaching of developmentally appropriate classes in a safe and nurturing environment
  • Supervise, teach, and support students in Early Childhood
  • Coordinate with Head Teachers regarding individual students
  • Work with the instructional team to set behavioral expectations and help students stay accountable

Learning Environment & Student Support

  • Prepare for and clean up after class activities and in shared learning spaces
  • Support the preparation of indoor and outdoor learning environments in line with our whole child instructional philosophy

Professional & Community Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in faculty culture committed to being at the leading edge of Early Childhood -Grade 8 education
  • Engage in ongoing learning related to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and antiracism
  • Contribute positively to a faculty culture committed to collaboration, reflective practice, and innovation
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Candidates must have one of the following:
  • Twelve postsecondary semester units in early childhood education from an accredited college and six months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or similar program. The units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development; child, family and community; and program/curriculum
  • A current and valid Child Development Associate Teacher, Teacher, or Master Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
  • Some experience working in a Pre-K/TK/DK or early childhood setting is preferred
  • Fifteen hours of health and safety training, if necessary, pursuant to Health and Safety code, Section 1596.866
  • Experience in or familiarity with student instruction is preferred

Work Schedule and Environment

This is a full-time, 11-month position with variable summer hours . Regular school year hours are 9:30am - 6:00pm, with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities required. Summer hours are typically from 8:00am - 4:30pm.

The physical demands of this position include standing, walking, bending, and sitting for extended periods; using hands and arms for instructional activities; supervising students indoors and outdoors; and occasionally lifting classroom materials up to 25 pounds. Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $20.00-$24.00/hour (based on experience, 11-month, non-exempt)
