About Turn/River

Turn/River Capital is a private equity firm that applies a proprietary growth engineering strategy to investing, partnering with software businesses to accelerate growth and build enduring value. The firm’s team of equal parts investors and operators provides hands-on operational support and the flexible capital to systematically scale marketing, sales and customer success at its portfolio companies. Founded in 2012 and based in San Francisco, Turn/River has $5.6bn in committed capital and invests globally with a focus on North America and Europe.

About The Role

Turn/River is seeking a VP, Product to build and operationalize our first-ever product playbook across the portfolio. This is a portfolio-facing, operator role that works directly with Chief Product Officers, CEOs, and executive teams at our portfolio companies.

Your mandate is simple but demanding: drive durable revenue outcomes—retention, expansion, and new sales—by improving how product teams identify value, prioritize work, and execute. You will help embed product-led and product-informed growth patterns into complex B2B software products, while strengthening alignment across Product, Engineering, Design, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will personally run product plays inside portfolio companies, teach teams how to run them independently, and codify what works into a reusable Turn/River product playbook.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with CPOs and executive teams to assess product strategy, operating cadence, and value delivery
  • Establish portfolio-consistent product measures (e.g., activation, time-to-value, retention drivers)
  • Identify the highest-impact value leaks and define focused product bets
  • Map customer journeys, sketch flows, draft copy, and create low-fidelity prototypes
  • Partner with in-house designers and engineers to ship meaningful product changes
  • Run existing Turn/River product plays and co-author new plays as patterns emerge
  • Partner closely with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success leaders to ensure product supports GTM motions
  • Share insights, benchmarks, and patterns across portfolio companies to accelerate learning velocity

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience as a product leader in B2B software environments
  • 5 years of people leadership or senior product ownership at the Director or VP level
  • Prior responsibility at $100M ARR software companies
  • Experience advising or partnering with executive teams during periods of scale
  • Ability to translate customer and business problems into high-impact product initiatives
  • Track record of communicating product strategy in business terms to executives and boards
  • Propensity to use data, pattern recognition, and basic modeling to guide decisions
  • Consulting experience is a strong plus

Location

  • San Francisco, hybrid work model

Compensation

  • The annual base salary range for this role is $330,000 - $340,000, taking into account numerous variable factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational requirements.
  • This role is eligible to participate in the Turn/River carry program and a discretionary bonus program.
