Turf Tenders is hiring a career-minded Lawn Care Technician to perform professional lawn treatments and eventually manage an assigned customer route throughout Northern Indiana.

This is not a mowing or general landscaping position.

Professional lawn care is a skilled trade. Our technicians learn turfgrass health, fertilizer and weed-control applications, insect and disease identification, pesticide safety, equipment calibration, customer communication, and independent route management.

No previous lawn-care experience is required. We are willing to train someone who has strong character, dependable work habits, mechanical ability, and a genuine interest in developing professional skills.

Compensation and Earning ProgressionTraining Technician: $16–$20 Per Hour

Starting pay is based on experience, qualifications, licensing, driving history, mechanical ability, and related work skills.

During training, technicians learn:

• Turf Tenders’ application procedures
• Safe equipment operation
• Product labels and application requirements
• Equipment calibration
• Weed and turf-problem identification
• Digital service documentation
• Customer-service expectations
• Truck, trailer, and route procedures

Training technicians work with experienced team members until they demonstrate that they can safely and professionally complete the position’s responsibilities.

Trained and Independent Technician: $22–$25 Per Hour

Technicians who complete training and demonstrate the ability to manage a route independently can earn $22–$25 per hour.

Independent technicians are responsible for safely completing an assigned route, maintaining accurate records, communicating professionally with customers, caring for equipment, and meeting established quality and production standards.

Daily Production Bonuses

Trained and independent technicians can also earn daily production bonuses of up to $50–$75 on qualifying production days.

Bonuses are based primarily on completed production or revenue. To qualify, technicians must also meet company standards for:

• Attendance and reliability

We reward technicians who complete productive days while maintaining professional standards. Speed or production never excuses poor-quality work, inaccurate applications, unsafe practices, or incomplete documentation.

Professional Skills You Will Develop

Turf Tenders provides practical, field-based training in:

• Turfgrass health and seasonal lawn requirements
• Fertilizer and nutrient applications
• Broadleaf and grassy weed identification
• Herbicide selection and application
• Turf insect identification
• Turf-disease identification
• Pesticide safety and handling
• Reading and following product labels
• Legal application requirements
• Equipment calibration and accurate application rates
• Ride-on lawn application equipment
• Backpack and handheld spraying equipment
• Truck and trailer operation
• Digital service documentation
• Customer communication
• Independent route planning and completion

Qualified employees will receive assistance obtaining the required Indiana pesticide credentials.

Primary Responsibilities

• Apply fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and other lawn treatments
• Operate professional ride-on application equipment and sprayers
• Inspect lawns for weeds, insects, disease, and other turf concerns
• Follow product labels, application rates, safety requirements, and company procedures
• Complete an assigned daily route accurately and efficiently
• Maintain complete and accurate digital service records
• Document lawn conditions and customer concerns
• Communicate professionally with customers
• Protect landscaping, pavement, structures, and other customer property
• Maintain an organized truck and application equipment
• Clean and inspect equipment
• Assist with routine equipment maintenance
• Load and unload products and equipment
• Work outdoors in changing temperatures and weather conditions

Independent Technician

A technician may be approved for independent route work after demonstrating the ability to:

• Safely operate the assigned truck, trailer, and application equipment
• Properly load and secure products and equipment
• Identify common weeds and turf concerns
• Calibrate equipment accurately
• Apply products at the proper rates
• Follow pesticide labels and company procedures
• Complete accurate service documentation
• Communicate professionally with customers
• Protect customer property
• Manage an assigned route without constant supervision
• Meet reasonable production standards
• Maintain quality while working efficiently
• Properly care for company vehicles and equipment

Independent technicians become eligible for the $22–$25 hourly pay range and daily production bonuses.

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license
• Driving record acceptable for company vehicle insurance
• Reliable transportation to our Bremen shop
• Ability to safely operate a company truck after training
• Ability to safely tow and maneuver a trailer after training
• Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, and work outdoors for extended periods
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and pesticide labels
• Ability to use a smartphone or tablet
• Ability to work independently after completing training
• Ability to communicate respectfully with customers and coworkers
• Ability to meet applicable pre-employment requirements

Preferred but Not Required

• Indiana pesticide applicator license
• Professional lawn-treatment experience
• Agriculture or turf experience
• Landscaping or pest-control experience
• Route-service or delivery experience
• Truck and trailer experience
• Mechanical or equipment-operation experience
• Previous outdoor work experience

Applicants do not need to meet every preferred qualification. We are prepared to train the right person.

Work Schedule

The normal schedule is:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required because of weather delays or seasonal workload.

Lawn treatments cannot always be performed during rain, excessive wind, or other unsuitable application conditions. Team members must be reasonably flexible when weather affects the normal schedule.
