Performance Responsibilities
- Implement programs which include initiating group and individual activities to assist in the academic and social skill acquisition and success of students.
- Observes and analyzes student behavior and administers and evaluates screeners to determine students' needs.
- Observes and analyzes the classroom environment to provide support for teachers and students.
- Serve on student support teams and special education committees at assigned schools.
- Analyze information gained through record reviews and interviews to determine environmental impact and appropriate resource needs.
- Interview students and parents to discuss issues related to non-attendance and develop a plan of action.
- Provide individual and/or group counseling in response to school-wide crises.
- Participate in professional development activities aimed at current trends and best practices.
- Administers age appropriate assessment methods and material to determine the needs of students.
- Consults with teachers and other school personnel to obtain information regarding the reason for referral.
- Gathers background information on the student's social history by conducting behavioral observations, making home visits, conducting interviews, and reviewing school records.
- Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary assessment team assigned to each school and works as a team member in making placement decisions, developing intervention plans, and planning programs to meet the special needs of children.
- Communicates case findings and recommendations to teachers and other school personnel as needed.
- Provides in-service training and workshops for teachers and staff regarding mental heath issues and proper procedures for the identification and referral of students.
- Organizes and conducts specialized programs to include parent training classes and student support activities.
- Acts as a member of the school crisis team to provide intervention to students as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
