What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor position at TUOLUMNE TRIBAL COUNCIL?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Education Manager the Instructor is responsible for the academic, social, and cultural development of the students of the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians. This position focuses on working with students to develop their academic skills necessary to successfully complete grades K through 12. The Instructor will provide academic, remedial and cultural enrichment activities to assist students in learning different subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their academic and future employment successes. The Instructor serves as an advocate between schools, essential organizations, the parents/guardians and the youth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess each participant and develop an Individual Progress Plan (IPP) that includes educational goals.
- Maintain student files to track progress and aide in achievement of education goals.
- Be an advocate in coordinating IPPs with schools, essential organizations, parents, and the student.
- Develop and provide academic and culturally enrichment activities based on community need.
- Provide specialized remedial work and homework tutoring to students in a structured educational and positive environment.
- Develop and maintain library programming to support achievement of educational goals for students.
- Encourage and recruit students for programs, activities, and cultural events.
- Keep track of attendance and outcomes for all enrichment program/activities and social recreation.
- Develop and maintain resource materials, program schedule and event schedule for parents and students.
- Provide training in implementation of IPPs to Enrichment Assistants to ensure direct services to students.
- Work with the Education Manager to set schedules and work assignments for Instructional Assistance to ensure effective use of instructional time.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Possession of a current California Teaching Credential or Bachelors Degree in Community Education, Education or related area preferred.
- Five years of experience in the education field or related experience working with youth.
- Possess computer skills sufficient to provide administrative support, oversee online activities, and computer-assisted instruction.
- Must be able to provide instruction and remediation in all subjects.
- Possess strong organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environment.
- Flexibility to work hours, as program needs change.
- Ability to enforce compliance with safety codes, rules, and regulations in all department programs and activities.
- Must be able to establish rapport with the Indian community and the public schools.
- Must be able to develop new educational programs.
- Must possess a valid California drivers license and comply with the requirements of the Tribes driving policy and insurance requirements.

Physical Requirements:
This position is deemed a level 2 and requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching; pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer, phones and small office machines; hearing, talking and strong verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers.

Preference in filling vacancies shall be given first to qualified Tuolumne Me-Wuk Community Council Members and then to enrolled Native Americans of any federally recognized tribe.
