Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, track, and oversee safety training programs, including orientation, ongoing training, and specialized topics (e.g., hazard communication, emergency response).
- Coordinate, track, and oversee regulatory training and offerings to include Hazardous Waste, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Workplace Violence Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hep-B offering, etc.
- Conduct regular safety reviews and risk assessments across Tribal Government facilities and worksites.
- Identify compliance gaps related to use of required PPE, jobsite safety, and other workplace safety standards, making recommendations and implementing appropriate corrections.
- Attend monthly Safety Committee meetings presented by the Risk and Safety Department, disseminate the information presented, and ensure it is delivered to all Tribal Government departments.
- Maintain, update, and distribute all forms required by the Risk and Safety Department programs. Additionally, assist leaders and employees in filling out required forms and ensuring they are returned appropriately and timely.
- Review workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses; prepare root-cause analysis reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct “reasonable suspicion” reviews in accordance with established Risk processes, training, and confidentiality requirements.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations, making recommendations accordingly.
- Review, update, audit, and communicate emergency preparedness and response plans.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of [2–5] years of experience in safety, compliance, or risk management.
- Experience working in Tribal Government, public sector, or multi-entity organizations preferred.
- Knowledge of safety compliance and reporting requirements.
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Professional certification such as OSHA 30, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST, or equivalent preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret regulations and translate them into practical workplace procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety/compliance tracking systems.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and comply with the requirements of the Tribe’s driving policy and insurance requirements.
