What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Officer position at Tumeq LLC?
Suulutaaq is currently hiring an experienced Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) to join our construction management operations for heavy civil projects in Gold Beach, Oregon. We perform grading, levee repair, Roads and Highways, demolition, de-watering, and underground utility work.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for following and enforcing overall job site safety program – responsible for keeping the job site accident free.
- Implement site specific Accident Prevention Plan/ IIPP. Update IPP as the job progresses
- Prepare daily safety inspection reports.
- Determine training and development needs and conduct on-the-job training, including new employee orientation.
- Recommends procedures to improve existing safety methods.
- Maintains current knowledge of legal and contractual requirements affecting safety, health, and welfare.
- Supervises the provision and use of PPE and equipment.
- Conducts daily, weekly and monthly safety toolbox meetings with crews.
- Creates new Hazard Analysis’s and reviews with field crews. Determines potential hazards on new contracts before work starts, the impact it may have on the safety organization and other precautions as required.
- Monitors any changes in safety requirements.
- Determines the cause of any accident or dangerous occurrence and recommends a means of preventing recurrence.
- Assists with safety training employees at all levels.
- Remains current with recommended codes of practice and safety literature. Circulates information applicable to appropriate employees.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work effectively with supervisors and craft personnel are also required.
- Ability to proactively recognize safety hazards ahead of time and assist in planning for the work.
- Must be able to walk through rough construction sites and lift 20 pounds from the ground
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Verifiable experience as a full-time safety representative on large heavy construction projects.
- 30 Hour OSHA construction industry training.
- Candidates must be able to pass a drug test as part of the selection process.
- Candidate must consent to a background check.
- Candidate must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
- Must have clean driving record for the past three years
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to earn and keep CRP and First Aid Training certification.
A Plus:
- Recent experience on a Federal and State Dept. of Transportation projects
- SSHO qualified.
- Experience working with Corps of Engineers
- Rock experience
- Marine experience
