Status: Full-Time / Exempt
Shift: Day and Evening shifts based on simulation schedule
Description:
Provide technical and instructional support for all simulation operations. Responsible for operating and maintaining simulation and computer equipment to include but not limited to all hardware and software associated with low-high fidelity simulators, AV equipment, simulation preparation set-up and take down; including application of moulage. Facilitates low-high and procedural skills simulations. Collaborates with simulation coordinator and instructional staff.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares the simulation and control room(s), and clinical lab area(s) for simulation scenario(s) following standard operating procedures, instructions, and checklists. Setup may include props, task trainers, fluids, moulage, etc. Moving heavy objects (simulators) is frequently necessary. Breakdown simulation equipment after completion and perform post-maintenance on simulator(s) and equipment. Inventory and order consumable simulation supplies.
- Maintain all simulation equipment ensuring it is in working condition and maintain record of maintenance including software updates. Troubleshoots/repair simulators, software, hardware, and AV equipment issues rapidly and efficiently. Collaborates with vendor(s) and simulation coordinator to schedule maintenance and repairs.
- Provides technical support during simulation. Acquires and maintains skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies. Maintains contact with other simulation facilities, vendors, manufactures, IT department, and simulation coordinator for assistance with equipment problems
- Trains faculty and learners to use simulators (SimMan 3G, Nursing Anne), task trainers, patient monitors, AV equipment, and simulation software (SimCapture, LLEAP, Scenario Cloud), and computerized medication administration (Pyxis).
- Manage SimCapture accounts for staff and learners including: recordings, playback, storage, and cataloguing simulations. Follows video confidentiality protocols. Creates student simulation schedules and collaborates with faculty to schedule student video recording(s).
- Facilitate the simulation scenario while operating the simulator, AV equipment, and software during simulation and skill checkoffs to assist, guide, and support learners in achieving expected outcomes. Program and operate simulator software for physiological responses. Knowledge in simulation pedagogy and methods.
- Use facilitation methods to assist learners in their skill development and explore thought processes in critical thinking, problem-solving, clinical reasoning & judgement, and apply their theoretical knowledge to patient care in a range of healthcare settings.
- Engage with learners and faculty during simulation to identify knowledge or performance gaps. Meet with program coordinator(s) regularly to ensure simulation experiences are meeting learner(s) needs.
- Develop instructional materials for simulation scenarios. Deliver instruction during simulation orientation, scenarios, and staff professional development. Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite. Maintains simulation fidelity by best practices and use of technology.
- Supervise retrieval of laboratory equipment as requested by instructional staff and for the specific health programs housed within the Health Sciences Center. Assist instructors in the operation of equipment; maintain an efficient check-out and check-in system for all clinical laboratory resources; and ensure that all Health Sciences Center's Clinical laboratory equipment is properly maintained.
- Perform tasks and duties relevant to any of various roles or responsibilities assigned by supervision and determined by management to be appropriate for this position; comply with all policy, procedure, regulation and other communicated requirements as may be in effect for the workgroup or worksite.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making decisions regarding the provision of services to internal and external customers and in day-to-day operations of the department. Interpret and implement policies in a manner consistent with the interests of the District. Provide advice and consultation to executive management as requested. Investigate and resolve issues as needed, represent the department and District in a professional manner to all.
Job Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a clinical area and/or education setting with health care students.
- Hold a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification preferred or be willing to obtain within the first three (3) years of employment.
- Bilingual is a plus.
Education:
Associate degree in area of health and/or technology is required; Bachelors degree preferred.

Hiring Range:
$55,575 to $62,922 dependent on experience, plus additional $9,000 annual compensation for salary-in-lieu of dependent benefit coverage.
