Join our dynamic team as a Ditch Maintenance / Ditch Tender, where you'll play a vital role in ensuring the integrity and functionality of water systems, underground utilities, and pipeline infrastructure. Primary Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision of the O&M Superintendent, performs a variety of semi-skilled and basic tasks in the construction, repair, and routine maintenance of District facilities, including canal control structures and turnouts, pipelines, culverts, and other such water conveyance facilities.
Duties
Assists in construction tasks involving wood materials and basic carpentry work; assists in concrete construction and structure repairs; performs general maintenance tasks including trench work, hand tool use, painting, and steel fabrication; repairs leaks in pipelines and culverts; performs canal maintenance tasks including debris/weed removal, bank protection and restoration, and weed spraying; operates some light equipment (e.g., dump truck, wheel tractor); assists in field repairs of light equipment; services low-lift pumps; establishes and maintains safe working environment in excavation, scaffolding, light/heavy equipment usage, and other construction elements involving hazardous conditions, and additional duties as prescribed by Management.
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school is desirable but sufficient work-related experience can substitute therefor.
Knowledge and Skills
Skills in the use and application of hand tools and miscellaneous small equipment; skills in the preparation, placement and finish work in concrete slabs, walls, foundations and footings; skills in basic steel fabrication; knowledge of basic safety considerations in working around equipment and machinery, excavated areas, and water facilities; ability to work effectively with other maintenance workers in a team-oriented fashion
