What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Specialist position at Tulane University?
The key responsibility of the Systems Specialist for Campus Recreation is to administer and maintain the security and integrity of the member management and financial system, Campus Recreation website, and multiple departmental software systems. Other key responsibilities include the management and support for a student evacuation database and maintenance of departmental servers and customized applications. Within the Recreation Management System, this position will maintain POS client computers, entry systems, and updates. The Systems Specialist will identify innovative software and technology to meet the specialized needs of the department. This position will maintain and install security updates for all departmental software and hardware. A complete listing of technology and electronic related inventory will be maintained by the Systems Specialist. This position will support all other telecommunications and audio-visual needs for the department. They will serve as the primary liaison to Technology Services and third-party vendors. This position will evaluate and establish long term goals for departmental technology development and needs. The Systems Specialist will also supervise two student staff assistants. 4. Ability to set priorities and make decisions independently
5. Knowledge of Linux scripting and Python application development
6. Ability to manage the secure and encrypted import/export of confidential data
7. Ability to install, update, and maintain both software and hardware to encompass departmental systems and servers
Required Education and/or Experience 1. Bachelor’s degree in a non-specific field of study or high school diploma/equivalent and 6 years of directly related work experience
AND
Preferred Qualifications 1. Programming experience
2. Minimum of 2 years related experience in hardware & software management
2. Knowledge of Linux scripting, Python, HTML, CSS preferred
3. Experience in Microsoft PowerBI including M queries and DAX data modeling
4. Ability to integrate departmental services and systems with university systems
5. Knowledge of Recreation Management Software
