Job Description
A Lab Supervisor I position is available immediately in the Norton Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology & immunology. This person will perform, coordinate, train and supervise laboratory staff of PI and collaborators, as well as students/post-docs, and visitors, in completion of experimental studies for multiple NIH funded grants and contracts for Principal Investigator (PI). Managerial oversight for performance of experimental assays, detailed documentation, analysis and summaries of research data into charts and reports, reagents, supplies, and stocks for use in experiments as well as samples and equipment inventories. Preparation of and assurance that regulatory documents IACUC, OSHA, Tulane OEHS, Biosafety, and shipping requirements are met. Management and oversight of laboratory operations and maintenance. Potential work assignments may include BSL-2 and BSL-3 agents and containment.

Responsibilities
- Aseptic technique, handling of biological specimens, and in vitro cultivation of mammalian cells and infectious virus
- Virologic, immunologic, molecular laboratory assays and use of typical biomedical/microbiological lab equipment
- Computer competence (Word, Excel) and/or use of data analysis software (Prism, FloJo, etc.)
- Known supervisory experience with staff and students
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in biological science and three years of experience in biomedical research facility
- M.S. Degree in microbiology/ virology/ immunology or related field
- 5 years of experience in biomedical research facility microbiological research laboratory
- Biomedical virological experience with BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 agents and containment
- Biomedical animal laboratory experience
Requirements
If this position is assigned to work in BSL3 containment areas, there will be additional minimum requirements including some, or all, of the following:
- Willingness to travel to BSL3 at the TNPRC
- Must pass a US Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for access to select biological agents and toxins.
- Ability to perform job duties while wearing respiratory protection.
- Must participate in drug and alcohol program and be incompliance with TNPRC drug and alcohol policy.
