What are the responsibilities and job description for the HLA Laboratory Technologist Trainee position at Tulane University?
Perform histocompatibility testing, e.g., HLA typing, HLA antibody screening, and crossmatching, in support of the Tulane Transplant and other Programs. The employee will have Quality Control and Quality Assurance responsibilities. After one year of training, the technologist will apply to take the Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) exam provided by the American College of Histocompatibility and lmmunogenetics (ACHI). The employee is given two attempts to pass this exam and must do so to fulfill the training plan and requirements for promotion to HLA Technologist I. If a technician has not met requirements for promotion after two years, they may not continue in this position. Applicants eligible for an HLA Technologist I (or higher) position should apply for that position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NOT MANDATORY):
- Master's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
- Experience in histocompatibility or other clinical or research-focused laboratory testing.
- Applicants meeting criteria for an HLA Technologist position may be offered that position.
- Willingness to provide on-call/overtime services is mandatory.
- Knowledge of computers and common software such as word processing and spreadsheets.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with colleagues, providers, and other personnel.
