I. GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Perioperative Services Executive Team, this role is responsible for driving improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of Perioperative Services operations. He/she provides operational and financial leadership in partnership with physician, nursing, other clinical, and administrative colleagues, with direct, shared responsibility

As part of the Perioperative Servicse leadership team, this role helps develop operational and financial targets for the OR, and takes a lead role in developing and implementing the business and operational plans to achieve them. He/ she works closely with colleagues in Information Systems, Facilities, HIM, Finance and other Departments to develop an operational and financial infrastructure that supports the clinical enterprise, and serves as the project manager for specific Perioperative Services efforts. He/she also manages the operating and capital budget processes for the areas of responsibility, ensuring the development of robust projections and managing communication and analysis around performance throughout the year.

II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership

As part of the Perioperative Services leadership team, establishes operational and financial goals for the Operating Room, and prepares and presents business and operational plans to achieve these goals. Takes a lead role in implementing these plans to drive achievement of goals.

Manages non-Patient Care Services managers and staff in assigned areas and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations and ongoing professional development. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership for effective teamwork and motivation.

Plans, organizes, and oversees project work as defined and prioritized by Perioperative Services Executive Team, including the evaluation and implementation of new clinical programs and technologies.

Supports strategic planning and network development efforts, with responsibility for developing strategies to achieve the operational goals of the OR and on communicating national and local trends for OR operations and their impact on OR strategy.

Maintains professional knowledge and skills through participation and leadership in professional organizations, attendance at conferences and continuing education programs, and other related activities. Serves as a mentor and role model, providing guidance, assistance and learning opportunities for staff.

Operations

Partners with physician, nursing and tech leadership to develop systems by which to monitor, evaluate and report program performance and organize and co-lead efforts to implement changes to optimize performance.

Collaborates with other departments as needed on Perioperative-related projects and initiatives.

Continuously identifies opportunities, and develops and implements recommendations, to improve performance through redesign of workflows, use of technology, and staff roles.

Oversees day-to-day operations for assigned areas

Finance

Assists with coordination and management of the capital process.

Coordinates and manages all aspects of the Hospital Budget process for areas of assignment, including monthly variance reporting.

Serves and leads committees as assigned

Partners with HIM, Finance and other key stakeholders to optimize A/R.

Takes the lead on developing business plans, including operational plans and financial pro formas, for new clinical programs and investments.

III. JOB REQUIRMENTS

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent analytical skills needed to interpret data and to develop, implement and evaluate systems, policies, procedures, budgets, etc. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with varying levels of personnel within and outside TMC and to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office PowerPoint.

EDUCATION:

  • Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Master's degree in Business or Health Care Management.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven to ten years of progressive management growth in the healthcare industry, with at least 3-5 years experience managing people, ideally supervisor and manager-level staff. Experience in cardiovascular services preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
