Position Overview
Tucker Ellis LLP is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our Cleveland office. This position will support attorneys in all phases of litigation, from case inception through trial and appeal. This person will need to have significant hands-on trial experience, excellent organizational and technical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This role requires in-person trial attendance, with most trials taking place within an hour radius of Northeast Ohio. Occasional out-of-state travel (a few times per year) may also be required. When not in trial, the office schedule may vary depending on trial preparation demands, and some hybrid flexibility may be available based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide litigation support throughout the entire case lifecycle, including investigation, discovery, trial, and appeal.
- Draft, edit, proofread, and cite-check pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, subpoenas, and other litigation documents.
- Coordinate document production, including managing large volumes of electronically stored information (ESI).
- Assist attorneys in trial preparation by organizing exhibits, witness files, and trial binders.
- Attending and actively supporting attorneys in trial, including managing exhibits, preparing witness materials, coordinating with courtroom staff and vendors, and providing real-time trial assistance.
- File pleadings in state, federal, and appellate courts (both electronic and traditional filings).
- Conduct factual and legal research, including public records, docket searches, and case law retrieval.
- Summarize depositions, discovery responses, and medical or business records.
- Manage case files, calendars, deadlines, and databases to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Collaborate with attorneys, other paralegals, and firm staff to meet client needs and deadlines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in complex business litigation.
- Proven, hands-on trial experience, including direct in-courtroom support.
- Thorough knowledge of state, federal, and appellate court rules and procedures.
- Familiarity with courtroom logistics, exhibit management, and trial presentation software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel), PDF editing tools, and litigation support applications (e.g., Relativity, CaseMap, TrialDirector).
- Exceptional attention to detail, proofreading, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a team-oriented approach.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in a typical office setting.
- Significant in-person trial attendance is required. Most trials will be within Northeast Ohio, though occasional out-of-state travel (a few times per year) may be necessary.
- Trial attendance and preparation may require extended or flexible hours.
- Some hybrid flexibility may be available in the office when not actively preparing for or attending trial, depending on business needs.
