Tu Casa, Inc. is a 501 ( c ) (3) nonprofit organization providing comprehensive services to victims and children of domestic violence and sexual assault since 1979.

Job Description

  • Provide advocacy and crisis intervention services to domestic violence and sexual assault victims and their families to include short-term crisis counseling (in person and on the telephone), community referrals, court advocacy and assistance with protection orders, client transportation, and advocating for clients with other agencies

Reports to: Tu Casa Program Director

Key Advocacy Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention, referral, and networking and collaborating services to and for victims and their children
  • Provide clients with court, hospital, and law enforcement accompaniment as requested
  • Maintain client files and data necessary for statistical collection
  • Assist in meeting grant deliverables and reporting
  • Assist in maintenance and cleaning of Tu Casa, Inc. vehicles
  • Assist in stocking of client supplies and educational materials
  • Participate in all fundraising activities and assist in coordination of fundraising events
  • Work as a part-time Co-Located Advocate in ensuring coverage of entire SLV (Spending two days a month in other counties)
  • Communicate with other Victim Advocates to ensure clients are receiving regular, appropriate assistance
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-service trainings, and job related trainings
  • Network/collaborate with other agencies, e.g. department of social services, APT/CPT, La Puente, etc.
  • Assist with the provision of training for law enforcement, district attorneys, judges, and community members
  • Maintain all aspects of confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as defined and requested by the Executive Director

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Sociology or in a related field or 3 years of experience in a related field
  • Understanding of issues and dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of issues involved in working with diverse populations and organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also working as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other professionals, agencies, schools, and the public
  • Organized, detail oriented, and flexible. Able to identify and respond to shifting priorities
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), and problem solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and automobile insurance
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
  • Flexible hours, e.g. some evenings and weekends for outreach
  • Spanish speaking preferred but not required

Requirements

  • Attend 15 hours of domestic violence and 30 hours of sexual assault training and receiving ongoing annual training
  • Attend Crime Victim Rights and Compensation Training annually
  • Travel throughout San Luis Valley and surrounding communities
