What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ambulatory Equine Veterinary Technician position at Tryon Equine Mobile?
Tryon Equine Mobile is seeking an Ambulatory Equine Veterinary Technician with hands-on prior horse experience and a passion for delivering best-in-class medical care to join our busy equine practice. This position will be based near the Waxhaw area to help provide service to the southern side of Charlotte.
The ideal candidate will have prior equine experience conducting medical screenings, administering medications, performing routine procedures, and working in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. Applicants must be committed to delivering the highest caliber of patient care and client service and have a team-focused mentality.
Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians with appointments by:
- Preparing treatment area for patient examination, restraining horses during examination and procedures, assisting with and/or performing diagnostic imaging and treatment, and setting up for various procedures
- Collecting and organizing equipment for daily appointments, including loading and restocking of veterinarian vehicle for day’s use
- Help maintain cleanliness of the practice, including, but not limited to cleaning of the ambulatory vehicles, including vacuuming floorboards, disinfecting surfaces, and emptying trash
- Restocking medication and supplies in vehicle
- Communicating with the veterinarian in preparation for the following day, preparing vaccinations in advance as needed and signing out appropriate equipment for the day’s use
- Performing routine laboratory tests, documenting results and communicating with veterinarian
- Assisting with preparation of surgical packs, tables, carts, medications, drapes, etc.
- Tracking procedures performed and medications used during appointments, to assist the veterinarian with invoicing and restocking
- Professionally field and answer questions that come in via email or voicemail, responding in a timely manner and/or directing to the appropriate party as needed for resolution
- Notify appropriate staff of messages and emergencies
- Serve as the communication liaison between clients and Veterinarians and
- Create or complete invoices, then bill according to the doctor’s or client’s expectations
- Exhibit expertise with HVMS system and proper billing procedures, preparing invoices for clients (with veterinarian assistance) on farm calls
- Accept and process payments from clients
- Email/fax/mail requested information to clients, insurance companies, etc.
- Concisely input and manage information in the practice management and medical imaging software, ensuring client and patient data is accurately and efficiently captured
- Assist with required practice paperwork such as discharge and laboratory forms, Coggins Forms, Health Certificates, Pre-Purchase Exams, Radiographs, etc.
- Prepare laboratory samples for processing and shipping (blood, urine, feces, tissues, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Prior horse handling and restraint experience
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Ability to lift 75 -100 lbs
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills, with keen eye for details
