What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Paraprofessional (DSP) position at TruWay Staffing Services?
Minimum Qualifications - TRAINING PROVIDED, GREAT PAY
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have three years’ experience working with population being served.
- Must have minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities related to clinical skills experience in the care, training, and working with Adults with Intellectual Disabilities
- Valid NC Driver’s license and proof of car insurance
- Must have satisfactory Criminal Background Check
- Must have satisfactory Central Registry Check received from State Department
- Must demonstrate a working knowledge of the policies and procedures that are applicable to his specific job or position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Housekeeping Skills – Train, support and assist in common household related tasks in the areas of meal preparation, clean up, vacuuming, bed making, laundry skills, bed making and general household cleaning
- Social Skills – Train and assist each individual in developing acceptable and appropriate ways of expressing feelings, managing impulses in relating to others. Includes but not limited to (training in social mores, sexuality and use of alcohol and tobacco) as needed
- Academic Skills – Train in functional academics to include writing name, time and place orientation, simple math concepts, recognition of survival words or signs, use of the telephone, emergency procedures, money management, relaying personal data, etc.
- Community Skills - Provide community based experiences to acclimate individuals to community opportunities and how to use them appropriately
- Leisure and Recreational Skills – Provide individuals an opportunity to experience and participate within the mainstream community center in a variety of recreational and leisure activities
- Health and Safety – Train and assist individuals to identify unsafe situations and to seek medical attention when illness occurs. Promotion of good health through exercise and balanced meals. If applicable, address gross and fine motor skills
- Sensory stimulation and gross/fine motor skills – Introduction to activities that will strengthen gross/fine motor functioning and sensory stimulation
- Behavior/Problem Solving Skills – Integrate problem solving techniques into training activities, when issues arise teach alternatives to negative behavior. Implement Behavior Plans developed by a qualified professional, as needed
