POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE OF JOB: Kindergarten Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Valid/current New Mexico teaching license with appropriate endorsement(s). Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL: To instruct students in subject matter and skills that will continue their development as mature, able and responsible individuals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop lesson plans and utilize instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

• Lecture, demonstrate and use technology and other appropriate learning activities to present subject matter to class utilizing approved course of study.

• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

• Prepare, administer and correct tests; record results.

• Evaluate pupils ' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.

• Assign lessons, correct papers and evaluate presentations.

• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.

• Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning challenges.

• Maintain order in classroom and on school campus.

• Counsel pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.

• Keep attendance and grade records as required.

• Instruct pupils in citizenship and other basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations of the school district.

• Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.

• Assume other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.

• The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with BOE policy.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary is established by salary schedule.
