What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Spring 2026 Coach position at TRUSTEES OF THAYER ACADEMY?
Thayer Academy seeks qualified Middle School coaches at the Head and Assistant levels for the Fall and Winter seasons. This seasonal, part-time position is responsible for helping to lead a middle school sports team. The position includes promoting a culture and practice of excellence and sportsmanship consistent with the philosophy and policies of Thayer Academy and the program’s long history of achievement. The head coach is responsible for managing practices and games, supervising assistant coaches, communicating with families and the Thayer Athletic Department, and supporting the overall student-athletes’ growth. Assistant coaches are responsible for supporting the head coach in all duties mentioned above.
Season Dates
- March 24th - May 19th
Required practices
- Practice: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30- 3:45 pm
- Most games are scheduled for Tuesdays or Fridays, with no commitments on Saturdays

Roles & Responsibilities |
- Represent Thayer Academy as a role model and coach
- Head coaches at all levels are expected to plan and lead daily practices and weekly games with a focus on skill development, game strategy, respect, sportsmanship, and character development
- Cultivate a positive team culture emphasizing teamwork, resilience, and strong moral character
- Travel with the team on the bus to all games/practices
- Responsible for all Thayer Academy equipment following practices and games
- Ensure that all student athletes are picked up
- Effectively communicate in a weekly email with parents, the athletic department, and campus security, and daily communication with the coaching staff
- Share game score immediately following game and send athletic department a post-game write-up within 24 hours of contest completion
Compensation
- $1,000 to $9,000

Qualifications |
- Required preseason training in late August, including CPR/AED Certification
- Required online certification for concussion management: Heads Up Certification
- MS seeks some experience coaching at the appropriate school level
- MS seeks some experience designing and implementing daily practice/game plans
- Commitment to working in and fostering a safe and inclusive environment

- Willingness to work on a team in a collaborative department
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and families
- Complete CPR/AED & Heads up! Certifications
- Willingness to learn and grow through professional development opportunities

- Adherence to all Thayer Athletic Department Policies & Practices
