What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dance Lesson Instructor position at Trustees of Deerfield Academy?
The Dance lesson instructors teach dance technique classes within our academic and co-curricular dance programs. They report to the Director of Dance. For this posting, we are specifically seeking an instructor for Hip-Hop only.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- The ability to teach Hip-Hop dance techniques.
- The ability to impart the tenets of their particular technique in a manner that resonates with teenagers
- The ability to physically demonstrate all of the movements of their technique
- The ability to measure their students’ progress through direct feedback, and term-end comments
Job Specifications
- At least three years of teaching experience in their field.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
Physical Job Demands
- The ability to perform all of the gross motor skills that dancing entails for sustained amounts of time (at least one hour): walking, running, leaping, jumping, hopping, skipping, turning, twisting, crouching, stooping, kneeling, crawling, rolling, balancing, and reaching
- The ability to speak accurately, loudly, and quickly over music played at high volume
- The ability to hear questions from students while loud music is playing
- The ability to lift themselves and carry other dancers
- The ability to frequently perform tasks of repetitive motion with torso, arms, legs, head and neck
- The ability to see both near range (computer screens and documents) and far range (dancers in the studios and proscenium theater)
Working Conditions
The Dance Lesson Instructors teach in our state-of-the-art dance studios with sprung dance floors and temperature control.
