Responsibilities
- Review and interpret medical documentation to assign appropriate DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding for home health services.
- Prepare and submit clean claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies, maintaining detailed records of all communications.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to verify medical records and ensure proper documentation supports billing entries.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, payer policies, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
- Reconcile billing discrepancies by reviewing medical records and correcting coding errors or documentation issues.
- Generate reports on billing status, collections, and outstanding accounts to support financial analysis and process improvements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing within a home health or similar healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms used for billing and documentation management.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare regulations related to billing practices.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to accurately review complex medical records and coding data.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with clinical staff, insurance companies, and patients’ families.
