Job Responsibilities
The School of Business and Professional Studies at Truman State University seeks applicants for appointment to one of the following to begin August 2026: (1) Tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Anatomy; (2) Non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Anatomy; (3) Non-tenure-track Instructor in Anatomy, term appointment.
This position is a full-time, nine-month appointment located on Truman’s campus in Kirksville, Missouri. In addition to the duties and responsibilities described below, faculty are expected to contribute to the campus culture of the Liberal Arts and Sciences and interdisciplinarity by teaching in the University’s core curriculum (The Dialogues) and contributing to interdisciplinary initiatives and coursework as needed.
Non-tenure-track, term Assistant Professor or Instructor appointments are subject to annual renewal. The initial term of the appointment is three years. Additional three-year terms may continue indefinitely based on the needs and budget of the university and positive performance review.
Responsibilities:
Successful candidates for either tenure-track or non-tenure-track appointments will cover classroom and laboratory instruction in undergraduate human cadaver anatomy as well as additional courses based on need and qualification. This individual will also fulfill academic duties including oversight of the human cadaver laboratory, academic advising, and provide service to the Department. For tenure-track faculty, additional responsibilities include University service, mentoring student-led research, and conducting research appropriate to the teacher-scholar model.

Required Qualifications
A doctoral degree in Exercise Science, Anatomy, or a related field with demonstrated teaching and prosection/dissection experience in Anatomy is required for a tenure-track appointment and is preferred for a non-tenure-track appointment. Candidates with a master’s degree in Exercise Science (or related field) will be considered for appointment as an Instructor.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition, all candidates will be evaluated on the following:
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness or the potential to be an effective teacher in human cadaver anatomy and other classes
- Evidence of commitment to liberal arts and sciences education
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Evidence or demonstrated potential for developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students
- Evidence of scholarly productivity or the potential to be a productive scholar (tenure-track only)
- Evidence or demonstrated potential for mentoring student-led research (tenure-track only)
