Position Title
Director of Clinical Education

Job Responsibilities
The Director of Clinical Education in Communication Disorders (CMDS) is a 12-month staff position with 75% of workload toward administrative duties and 25% of workload towards clinical instruction duties. The person in this position will be responsible for the below responsibilities with additional duties assigned as needs arise in consultation with the department chair.
  • Scheduling clinical services for each semester (including summer) to provide a wide range of experiences for student clinicians in the Truman State University Speech and Hearing Clinic.
  • Consulting with the department chair to ensure clinical instructors have a balanced workload between classroom and clinical instruction.
  • Communicating with the department secretary to ensure timely notification of scheduled services to both clients, students, and clinical instructors.
  • Providing clinical instruction of undergraduate and graduate clinicians in the clinic.
  • Maintaining a physical presence during clinic operating hours to support clients, families, students, and clinical instructors.
  • Participating in and/or leading graduate student orientation and a meeting to orient all beginning clinicians.
  • Providing training as needed to new clinical instructors in the Speech and Hearing Clinic.
  • Teaching/coordinating CMDS 480/681G (Clinical Practice/Advanced Clinical Practice) including a one-hour weekly didactic “Friday Forum” for all clinicians and providing support, as needed, for a separate section of the 681G course devoted to single-subject research projects within the clinic.
  • Contributing to the department’s graduate comprehensive assessment process.
  • Working with external agencies to establish and maintain partnerships (including securing contracts with agencies as needed) for varied clinical experiences for students (e.g., Head Start screenings, Greenwood Autism Center clinical placement) both for internship placements and pre-internship experiences.
  • Working with external agencies and student clinicians to ensure any onboarding requirements for internships are completed.
  • Communicating with internal and external clinical instructors to ensure all grading and competency tracking for student clinicians occurs in a timely manner.
  • Working in conjunction with the department chair to ensure adherence to accreditation and certification standards related to clinical aspects of the program.
  • Working with the department chair to meet with students of concern and keep documentation related to these proceedings.
  • Serving as a liaison between the department and various clinical education and tracking resources (e.g., Simucase, Calipso) while optimally utilizing said resources to track clinical skills and needs.
  • Working with graduate assistants to ensure clinic materials are in order.
  • Creating clinical policies as needed and updating the Clinic Manual as a resource for clinicians.
  • Working with the Academic Affairs office to ensure information on licensure and out-of-state clinical internships are accurately reported according to the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) guideline.
  • Engaging in service to the department and university as assigned (e.g. attending graduate student hoodings, university visit days, department committees, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Completed master’s degree in communication disorders or a closely related area.
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Eligibility for unrestricted licensure as a speech-language pathologist in Missouri.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of successful work as a speech-language pathologist in a clinical setting for at least one year post clinical fellowship.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of successful work as a speech-language pathologist in a clinical setting for at least five years.
  • Ability to provide clinical instruction to students for a wide variety of client populations.
  • Evidence of or demonstrated potential for mentoring students in transformative learning experiences such as clinical practicum, competency-based education, study abroad and service-learning.
  • Evidence and/or demonstrated potential for developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills in undergraduate and graduate students.

Salary
The starting salary for this position is $62,000 annually.
