As a family-owned construction company with over 50 years of experience in commercial and multi-housing projects, we are seeking an Estimator to join the team in the Greater Portland, ME area. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the analytical and collaborative sides of construction, with the opportunity to contribute to high-profile local projects while working closely with a tight-knit, experienced team.
What You'll Do as the Estimator:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial and multi-family construction projects
- Review drawings, specifications, and other documentation to develop accurate takeoffs
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and leadership on budgeting and preconstruction planning
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids and vendor pricing
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and project intent
- Support project teams throughout the lifecycle with budgeting updates and cost tracking
- Assist with bid submissions and proposal development
Must-Haves as the Estimator:
- 3-7 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field
- Strong understanding of commercial or multi-family construction processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
- Proficiency in Excel and general construction software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Nice-to-Haves as the Estimator:
- Experience with takeoff software such as PlanSwift (or willingness to learn)
- Degree in Construction Management or related field
- Prior field experience (e.g., Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Project Engineer)
- Familiarity with local subcontractor and vendor markets
