Bookkeeping Manager

Trueline's client, a growing accounting and advisory firm serving small businesses, is seeking a Bookkeeping Manager to join their New Jersey team. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced bookkeeping professional who can strengthen an established client portfolio, lead a team, and help grow the bookkeeping practice from approximately $675K to $1M in revenue.

What You'll Do as the Bookkeeping Manager:

• Lead the day-to-day operations of a growing bookkeeping practice, balancing team leadership with hands-on client work
• Manage, mentor, and develop bookkeeping staff while maintaining high standards for accuracy, responsiveness, and client service
• Oversee bookkeeping engagements for small business clients, with a growing emphasis on restaurants and hospitality businesses
• Review financial records, reconciliations, reporting, and client books to ensure accuracy and consistency
• Serve as a senior resource for complex bookkeeping issues in both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop
• Evaluate existing client accounts and workflows to identify opportunities for greater efficiency, stronger service, and additional revenue
• Build repeatable processes that allow the bookkeeping practice to scale without sacrificing quality
• Develop strong relationships with business owners and identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients
• Support new client acquisition and onboarding as the practice grows
• Partner with firm leadership to improve operations and help grow the bookkeeping practice from approximately $675K to $1M in revenue

Must-Haves as the Bookkeeping Manager:

• 10 years of professional bookkeeping experience
• Advanced proficiency with both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop
• Previous experience managing, supervising, and developing bookkeeping professionals
• Strong knowledge of small business bookkeeping, including reconciliations, general ledger management, financial statements, and month-end processes
• Ability to review the work of others, identify issues, and confidently resolve bookkeeping discrepancies
• Experience managing multiple client relationships and competing priorities
• A process-oriented mindset with the ability to improve workflows and create consistency across a growing practice
• Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with business owners
• A commercial mindset and interest in helping grow an established bookkeeping practice
• Ability to work from a New Jersey office, with potential flexibility for a hybrid schedule

Nice-to-Haves as the Bookkeeping Manager:

• Bookkeeping experience supporting restaurants, hospitality groups, or other high-transaction businesses
• Experience helping grow a bookkeeping, accounting, or professional services practice
• Familiarity with restaurant accounting considerations such as sales tax, payroll, tips, food costs, and multi-location operations
• Experience expanding existing client relationships and identifying additional service opportunities
• Experience improving client onboarding, reporting, pricing, or service delivery
• Background in an accounting firm, outsourced bookkeeping firm, CAS practice, or similar multi-client environment

Our Client Offers:

• $95,000-$115,000 base salary
• Quarterly performance bonuses tied to growth, with approximately $10,000-$20,000 in annual bonus potential
