Trueline's client, a growing multi-office tax and accounting firm serving individuals and small businesses, is seeking a Client Advisory Manager - Accounting and Tax Services to join its Staten Island, New York team. This client-facing leader will manage bookkeeping operations, help business owners understand their financial position, and serve as the link between clients, bookkeepers, and tax specialists. The role offers a clear path to Director for someone who can strengthen client relationships, improve service delivery, and help build a scalable advisory practice.
What You'll Do as the Client Advisory Manager - Accounting and Tax Services:
- Manage and develop a team of bookkeepers while establishing clear expectations for quality, accuracy, timeliness, and client service
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for individuals and small business owners, helping them understand their financial results and next steps
- Review financial statements, P&Ls, balance sheets, bookkeeping records, and completed tax returns to identify questions, risks, and planning opportunities
- Translate accounting and tax information into clear, practical guidance for clients
- Coordinate communication between clients, bookkeepers, tax preparers, and senior tax specialists
- Recognize when a client situation requires deeper tax expertise and bring in the appropriate specialist at the right time
- Review QuickBooks files, identify bookkeeping concerns, and guide the team on corrections needed for accurate reporting and tax readiness
- Lead client meetings involving bookkeeping, business performance, tax planning needs, and broader advisory opportunities
- Manage client expectations, resolve service issues, and handle difficult or time-sensitive conversations professionally
- Identify additional services that may benefit clients, including bookkeeping support, tax planning, advisory services, and related accounting solutions
- Improve workflows, communication standards, and handoffs between the bookkeeping and tax teams
- Help build the structure, processes, and team needed to support continued growth across multiple offices
- Travel to other office locations as needed
Must-Haves as the Client Advisory Manager - Accounting and Tax Services:
- Experience managing, mentoring, or overseeing bookkeepers or client accounting professionals
- Strong client relationship management skills, particularly with individuals and small business owners
- Ability to read and understand individual and business tax returns without being responsible for preparing them
- Ability to review P&Ls, balance sheets, general ledgers, and other financial reports and explain the findings to clients
- Strong QuickBooks knowledge, including the ability to review client files and identify bookkeeping issues
- Working knowledge of GAAP and sound accounting practices
- Ability to recognize potential tax issues or planning opportunities and determine when to involve a tax specialist
- Experience coordinating work across bookkeeping, accounting, tax, or advisory teams
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to lead client meetings and manage challenging conversations
- A direct, honest, and transparent working style, including the ability to raise concerns and respectfully challenge decisions
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines
- Ability to work from the Staten Island office and visit other locations when needed

- CPA license, EA credential, or accounting-related certification

Our Client Offers:
- Base salary depending on experience plus performance-based bonus compensation; total comp $90,000-$135,000
- Opportunity to advance to Director within approximately one to two years
