This role requires more than just experience; it demands a professional who can assertively negotiate the best terms while maintaining strong, productive relationships with international partners. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Asian (especially Japanese) culture, cuisine, and consumer goods, with an exceptional focus on sushi and traditional items. You will be instrumental in driving our procurement strategy, ensuring seamless international sourcing, and supporting grocery operations including reading and understanding Japanese.Key Responsibilities – Driven by Results:Masterful Negotiation: Strategically negotiate prices, terms, and contracts with overseas and domestic suppliers to maximize value and minimize cost, exhibiting assertive professionalism at all times.Global Sourcing & Selection: Proactively source, evaluate, and purchase premium Japanese food products, kitchenware, and specialty goods from international and domestic markets.Vendor Diplomacy: Develop, cultivate, and maintain strong, professional relationships with multiple vendors and manufacturers across diverse cultures.Cultural & Market Insight: Conduct in-depth market research focused on Japanese trends, sushi history, and evolving consumer demands to ensure we lead the market with authentic and trending items.Operational Persistence: Assist in coordinating complex international logistics, shipping schedules, and compliance with import regulations, tenaciously resolving any product issues or discrepancies with QA and warehouse teams.Support & Strategy: Maintain accurate purchasing records, inventory forecasts, and serve as a crucial backup buyer for grocery purchasing operations.Qualifications – The Right Blend of Skill and Poise:3 years of experience in purchasing, ideally in international procurement or food-related sectors.Exceptional negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
