About TRUE HEALTH NY

TRUE HEALTH NY is a multi-site outpatient medical group providing OB-GYN/Women's Health and Internal Medicine/Primary Care services across New York. We are committed to equitable, high-quality, patient-centered care and efficient clinic operations.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a key member of the care team responsible for supporting providers and nursing staff in delivering high-quality clinical care. This position is primarily clinical, with clerical and front desk coverage responsibilities as needed to support patient flow and clinic operations.

The MA will be assigned a home base location and may be asked to float to other sites occasionally based on staffing and operational needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

A) Clinical Responsibilities (Primary)

  • Room patients efficiently; support a busy outpatient schedule and maintain clinic flow.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, chief complaint, medications, allergies, and relevant history in the EMR.
  • Prepare patients for provider visits and ensure readiness for exams and procedures.
  • Assist providers with OB-GYN and Internal Medicine care, including (as applicable):
    • Pap smears, pelvic exams, prenatal visits, and chaperoning sensitive exams.
    • Injections/immunizations and TB testing (PPD) per protocol.
    • EKGs and point-of-care testing (e.g., urine dip, urine pregnancy test).
    • Specimen collection, labeling, handling, and preparing labs for pickup/processing.
  • Provide patient education within scope (pre-test instructions, procedure expectations, follow-up steps).
  • Maintain clinical supplies and exam rooms: stock rooms, rotate supplies, check expiration dates, and keep rooms clean and ready.
  • Follow HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and organizational policies at all times.

B) Clerical & Front Desk Coverage (As Needed)

When patient volume or staffing requires, the MA may provide cross-coverage to support front office operations, including:

  • Greet patients professionally and maintain a calm, respectful patient experience.
  • Support check-in/check-out, patient registration updates, and demographic verification.
  • Collect and verify insurance information; assist with eligibility verification as trained.
  • Obtain signatures for required forms/consents and ensure documents are scanned into the EMR.
  • Schedule appointments according to clinic guidelines and provider templates.
  • Perform reminder calls, follow-up calls, and no-show outreach when assigned.
  • Scan/fax/upload records and perform basic clerical tasks needed for daily operations.

Note: Front desk support is not the primary function of this role, but the MA must be willing and able to assist as needed to keep the clinic running smoothly.

C) Teamwork, Flexibility & Operations

  • Work collaboratively with providers, nursing, ultrasound (if applicable), and front desk teams.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients and coworkers.
  • Support clinic opening/closing duties as assigned.
  • Assist with quality initiatives, audits/logs, and workflow improvements as needed.
  • Float to other locations periodically (Queens/Brooklyn/Long Island) based on business need.

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program and/or Medical Assistant certification (CMA/CCMA/RMA or equivalent).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
  • At least 1 year experience in a medical office/clinic setting (OB-GYN or Primary Care strongly preferred).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient environment.
  • Strong professionalism: reliable attendance, punctuality, respectful communication.
  • Basic computer skills and comfort learning EMR systems.

Preferred Qualifications (Strong Advantage)

  • Experience in OB-GYN/Women's Health and/or Internal Medicine.
  • EMR experience (eClinicalWorks or similar).
  • Phlebotomy experience (if applicable to your sites).
  • Bilingual (Spanish strongly preferred; other languages a plus).
  • Experience supporting both clinical and front desk workflows in a high-volume clinic.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move between exam rooms.
  • Ability to lift/carry typical clinical supplies.
  • Comfort assisting with sensitive OB-GYN exams while maintaining privacy and professionalism.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Patients are roomed on time; vitals and documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Providers are supported efficiently during exams and procedures.
  • Exam rooms are stocked, clean, and ready for the next patient.
  • When covering front desk, check-in/check-out stays smooth and professional.
